On Tuesday Living Well had a $20,000 check delivered to help cover the costs of adding a ramp to the back stairs at our Kennelly home. It was a wonderful gift that will help cover an unbudgeted need at the home, allowing for a more accessible ramp.
What makes this story extra special is just how fast a wish was granted. Last week, Dennis Klose with the KDK Foundation approached Individual Giving Manager, Jamee Yung, with the promise of a donation. All he needed was a little more information and a dollar amount. Jamee worked with COO, Rod Carlson, to determine the best use of a potential donation. They came up with improvements to a ramp at the back of the house that would help with evacuation in the event of an emergency. Then much to our delight, Dennis called to say he got the entire amount approved unanimously by his board.

Dennis is a passionate disability advocate and a long-term supporter of Living Well. His daughter, Kristine, moved into our East Emerson home back in March of 2000. In the years since, Dennis has seen how well she has been supported by staff and everyone in the organization. Dennis says, “This has been a dream of mine, to leave a legacy for Kristine, and to know she will be well taken care of along with others.” A dad hoping to make a difference, Dennis got a nonprofit certification in May, and a charitable gambling license, then started selling pull tabs at the Longbranch Saloon and Eatery in Farmington. This generous gift is the first for the KDK Foundation, and he is thrilled. He promises there will be many more to come.

Aaron Oden, Program Manager at Kennelly, said, “It is important for the people in the house to have a ramp built for them that will allow them to walk down safely in the event of an emergency. I am looking forward to this getting done as it will give me a sense of peace.”

Having a new ramp installed that was not budgeted for is just an incredible way to end the year. We are beyond grateful for the support of our donors, volunteers, staff, families and advocates! And this gift, hand delivered just before Thanksgiving, felt worthy of a confetti cannon.
