Last week Living Well invited friends and family to come have some FUN during our annual Family Fun Day party at Como Park. Back in May our staff picnic was rained out and forced inside, so we were diligently watching the weather. Lucky for us, the rain came 20 minutes after the party ended!
Featuring the very best in entertainment, Tony Redmond once again performed as Elvis and with his crew handed out his signature scarves to our super fans. James from 3807 has helped Elvis for years and could be found in his favorite seat at the tech table, where he made sure all the hits were played.
Aesop’s Table catered burgers, pasta and cookies. Volunteers from GAP School, Visitation School, and the Vikings, as well as many individuals, showed up to help.
With the hands of many—set up, games, tattoos and face paint stations, food help and clean up was a breeze!
This event is always a crowd favorite and everyone who comes has a BLAST. Family Fun Day is s special event as it brings everyone together—folks served and supported, families, guardians, case workers, and staff—for one really fun party. Over 400 people found time in their busy schedules to come out and celebrate family, inclusivity, and the joy of being in community. With 36 homes throughout the metro, there is a lot of planning involved in coordinating the RSVPs, food, entertainment, tents and schedules which is why we are happy to report close to 450 people joined us at the park for a bit of fun and dancing.
Another fun part about the day is watching the dedication of Board Members Tony DeRose and Nicolas Tiziou who once again led a group of volunteers as parking valets. Together they made the event easier to navigate for staff from start to finish. With so many people arriving in disability vans, parking can feel like a burden. But thanks to the valets, the parking was easy and, in a way, enjoyable as everyone was greeted at the party with smile.
Family Fun Day is an incredible tradition and is always a good time. We are beyond grateful to all who helped us celebrate. To the families and guardians, staff, people supported, volunteers, donors and advocates who joined us, thank you for coming to the party.
Thank you, everyone!
