Please mark your calendar and register for Living Well Disability Services’ Transforming Lives Gala on October 22, 2021.

Did you know our Gala is Going Virtual again? We hear this is a swivel, but you can still call it a pivot if you prefer. Please support our mission of delivering exceptional services that impact the lives of people impacted by disabilities by registering to join us ONLINE at livingwell.org/gala.

The Gala was initially planned as a hybrid celebration, with an in-person party in tandem with a free online component. But with Covid cases on the rise we decided it best to switch gears yet again. We are sad to miss the opportunity to host everyone at an indoor event but are excited to still be able to offer an Online Auction, a Livestream Program, and a Fund-A-Need that will cover care Beyond the Basics (as well as continuing COVID expenses). We will hear from our Dreammaker honorees (yearly award recipients in the categories of volunteer, community partner, self-advocate and donor), and learn more about the good work Living Well continues to do for people with disabilities.

This is our signature event, and the perfect way to learn more about our mission, the people we support, and the reasons we do what we do. Even better, it wraps all of this together and showcases the importance of disability advocacy. We believe that when we see and support people with disabilities, and new audiences get the opportunity to celebrate the gifts and talents of the people we serve, that it is a win for the disability community in general.

With 96% of our funding coming from government resources like Medicare, the money we raise goes to care Beyond the Basics—care not covered by waivers or assistance programs. Considering that 100% of the people who call Living Well home (or utilize our services) are low income, the funding fills a critical void. Everyone deserves a comfortable home, quality care and proper nutrition. But we like to go the extra mile, and the funds raised at this event are critical for therapies not covered by waivers—the extras that boost comfort and care; provide access to art therapies and fresh seasonal foods; services that boost morale and provide opportunities for growth and learning. The list goes on, and our Fund a Need doesn’t end when the event is over. The people we serve are often disabled for life, and we believe they deserve a life well lived with beautiful surroundings, smiling faces, inclusive practices, and the softer intangible supports a company in business for almost 50 years has the nuance to establish and provide.
