Our DSP this week is Adesuwa, she started working with Living Well back in 2019 and has been at our Elgin house since her first day on the job. Adesuwa was referred to Living Well by her coworker Revina, and together they are part of a great team who know how to have fun and make work better for each other.

Program Manager, Caroline Adesanya, says, “Adesuwa is the quiet type, but it is so fun to be around her. Her smiles are priceless. Adesuwa is always happy to help the people we serve, and to make them happy and comfortable as much as she can. She has good relationships with all the families that come around.” Caroline adds, “She is a straightforward person and always wants to make sure during her shift that everybody around her is happy. And another reason Adesuwa was chosen is because she is always on time. And if she is going to come late, she will let me know and also the staff she is taking a shift from and the staff she will be working with.

Adesuwa is a natural care giver who is comfortable with everyone at the house and makes fun at work a priority. She looks forward to coming in and truly enjoys the work.

Adesuwa, thank you for making a career out of caring. We appreciate your kindness and the joy you bring to Elgin.

ABOUT ADESUWA

Number of years/months with Living Well: 5 years 3 months

Hobbies/Interests: I like reading, especially magazines and novels. People recommend books to me, and sometimes I just pick up what I hear about.

Education: I have Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from, Nigeria, Africa.

Job Experience/History: Back in Arica I took care of my grandmother. I have been in the US since 2010, first in Texas, then I moved to Minnesota in 2019. I started with Living Well shortly after I moved here.

Favorite part of the job: Helping the guys do what they cannot do for themselves. I am always happy when I try to help people in ways they cannot help themselves. I also love to goof around and laugh at the house, to make them happy. I like to make them laugh along with me. I also like to help with day to day activities. Sometimes I go on appointments. Sometimes we cook and clean. And a lot of the time we laugh.

Favorite work story: Taking everyone outside and giving them opportunities to learn. I take the crew here outside house, around the deck, or in the sensory room, and help them understand how to use things. Helping them play and understand while having fun makes me happy.

What is your motivation for coming to work: When I get up in the morning, I am already looking forward to seeing the guys. When I walk in the door, I am happy.

What made you apply: I met Revina who works at the house, and we started talking and became friends. I told her I was looking for a stable job, and she recommended Living Well. So I went online and filled out the application.

What makes you stay: Number one, I am comfortable around the people I am working with and my coworkers. And when I come to work, I am happy. I just love the job, I love guys, and I look forward to work. It is special and this is a peaceful environment. Never really had a problem with anybody, and I respect everybody.

What would you tell people interested in joining the team: Be patient, and that teamwork is important at the house. If your coworker needs something it is essential to help and assist because the work is important.

When not at work what do you like to do for fun: I enjoy shopping and really like shoes and bags. If I see anything I like I will get it, I just go by what I see and like. I go with friends or by myself, and it is a nice way to relax.
