Our DSP for this week is Bryn, and she spent the summer working at our Poppler house in Eagan. She just went back to college at St. Olaf but will be back during breaks and next summer! This was her first time working as a DSP, but as an experienced babysitter and hockey coach—she is used to working with people and helping others thrive.
Alex Buslee, Program Manager, says, “When Bryn looks at you, you can almost hear her thinking. She is already in motion before you even finish a request. She is so full of energy, so positive, and so attentive to all the people at Poppler. She was instantly part of the team, being asked to join in any and all activities. She brought people out in the community daily, even attending the Gala after only a month of joining us. She is such a sweet and kind individual, and we are so excited to get her back on school breaks.”
Bryn, we appreciate you! Thank you for making time for caring.
ABOUT BRYN
Number of years/months with Living Well: 3 months (and coming back next summer and maybe on breaks)
Education: Graduated from Two Rivers High School where I was a National Merit Commended Scholar, a three sport varsity athlete, and graduated first in my class. I am currently attending St. Olaf College. My major is undecided but will likely be something in the sciences.
Job Experience/History: I started working at Living Well this summer. I also babysit and coach youth hockey.
Favorite part of the job: My favorite thing has been getting to know everyone who lives and works at Poppler.
What do you think are the most valuable lessons you have learned at Living Well: I am new to the role, but I think the biggest thing I have learned so far is how important it is to treat people how you would want to be treated.
What is your motivation for coming to work: It makes it fun to come to work when I enjoy spending time with not only the people living in the house but also the people who work there.
What made you apply: I started working here because the Program Manager encouraged me to come work at Poppler. My older brother, Isak, also started working here a couple years ago so he encouraged me as well. I also am interested in potentially pursuing a career in the medical field, so I applied here in hopes of gaining experience.
What makes you stay: I haven’t been here long, but I will definitely stay because of the people I’ve met and because this job allows me to make a positive impact in the lives of others.
What would you tell people interested in joining the team: Do it!
When not at work, what do you like to do for fun: I play hockey and I love sports and being active! In my free time I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. And this summer I went with my family to Yosemite!
Do you volunteer in your community or school: In high school I was in the National Honor Society so I did a lot of volunteering through that. I also have done a lot of volunteer coaching in my community youth hockey program.
