Our DSP for this week is Fawas, and he works at our Casey home in Inver Grove Heights. He frequently takes individuals out for treats at DQ and enjoys spending time with them at the park. At home, he actively engages with them and treats them as individuals first, rather than focusing on disabilities. He builds meaningful relationships and interacts with them as friends, helping them feel respected, heard, and valued.
Ashley Spencer-Mcarthur, Program Manager, says, “Fawas is dependable and genuinely cares about the people he supports. He enjoys taking them out into the community, which is especially valuable since not everyone likes to get out and about. He consistently supports the house by picking up extra shifts when needed. He is kind, approachable, and willing to listen to both staff and the people supported.”
Even when communication barriers exist, Fawas takes the time to get to know each person’s personality and preferences. The way he speaks with and relates to people helps them feel seen and understood.
Ashley adds, “Fawas is always willing to jump in and provide support wherever it is needed. He is particularly skilled at soothing bad moods and helping turn challenging moments into positive ones. His patience, kindness, and commitment make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people he supports.”
Fawas, thank you for making time to care for others. We appreciate you!
