Our DSP this week is Madie, and she works at our Carmen home. Her mother works in special education at the school she attended as a child and is her biggest inspiration and supporter. She was raised by a generous caregiver, and we are so glad she is on the Living Well team!

Madie has a lot of fun at work, is dedicated to the people she supports, and is well liked by her coworkers. Alexis Santana, Program Manager, says, “I would like to give a shout out to Madie because last week, she and a few staff put together a list of different activities and outings for someone we serve to get out and try. She took him out almost every day, to lunch, to the zoo, and to the children’s museum, and he had a blast! It was just so awesome to see him getting out and Madie taking the lead of finding new and different things to do with him this summer and seeing him so happy and having fun! Thank you, Madie!!”

Jeff has lived at Carmen since it opened in 2001 and has been with Living Well since we opened our doors in 1972. His mom has this to say about Madie, “It makes me smile to know Jeff’s enjoying the adventures Madie plans to get him out in the community.”

Madie, you bring the FUN, and we are grateful you are part of the amazing team at Carmen. We appreciate your dedication and are grateful you have chosen to make a career out of caring.

Years at Living Well:  2 years 7 months

Hobbies/Interests: I enjoy weightlifting, cooking, and going to the beach.

Education: Cosmetology Student

Job Experience/History: Before living well I worked at Camp Courage which is a part of True Friends. I worked in the kitchen.

Favorite part of the job: I enjoy taking clients on outings.

Favorite work story: When another staff Megan and I took our clients Kristen and Kate to see the new Little Mermaid movie. My favorite part of the outing was Kristen singing along to the songs in the movie and taking to the characters on screen.

What is your motivation for coming to work: I’ve always been interested in this line of work. My biggest inspiration though is my mom. My mom works with special education kids at the elementary school I used to attend. She is always striving to create the best environment for her students and provide them with what they need for success. That has really inspired me.

What made me apply: Like I said in the previous question, I’ve always been interested in this line of work. So, when I was looking for a job while I was finishing my cosmetology classes, my friend Megan told me there were openings at this group home so I applied.

What makes you stay: Definitely the bonds I have made with my clients.

What would you tell people interested in joining the team:I would definitely recommended, I have made a lot of good memories with clients while working here.

When not at work what do you like to do for fun: I like to go to the gym, hangout with my cat Jingle, and going out with friends.

Do you volunteer in the community or school: I’ve done volunteering at my school during our open house nights. Basically, I would help set up and clean up and do hair cut/color demos for students interested in the program.
