Our DSP this week is Martha. She is a Float DSP who often works at our Douglas and Orono Woodlands homes. After starting the float program in November of 2022, we now have 18 float staff who travel between houses to help us fill the gaps in staffing. We are delighted to have Martha on board as a float, and think she is an incredible part of the Living Well team.
Kristina Backman, Program Manager at Douglas, says, “Martha is an amazing asset to Team Douglas.
I first met her when she came to Douglas as a temp and actively recruited her to come work for Living Well Disability Services. She has a heart of gold!”

April Stevens, Program Manager at Orono Woodlands, says, “Martha comes in with a smile every day and goes above and beyond daily. She is never just sitting on the job, if she isn’t interacting with an individual served, she is cleaning.” April adores her energy and adds, “She is one of a kind fabulous!”

Cassidy Ihringer, Staffing Manager, says, “Martha hit the ground running from day one and quickly became an asset to the homes she supports. She has had nothing but great feedback from managers and has had a positive impact on the houses. She is a motivated self-starter with an incredible attitude, which makes her the perfect addition to the float pool. Her upbeat personality and her willingness to take the lead and jump right in has been a great gift for the teams in the individual homes where she works.”

With her beloved family

We are so lucky that people dedicate their time and energy to making careers out of caring for others. And we are grateful to have a crew of flexible staff who work at more than one home. This program has eased our reliance on staffing agencies and brought many amazing people to the team.

Martha, we are so grateful for the amazing work you do for us. We appreciate kindness and the way you care for the people who call Living Well home. Thank you for making a career out of caring!

ABOUT MARTHA

Number of years/months with Living Well: 3 months

Hobbies/Interests: I love shopping, watching sports, and admittedly am a big fan of WWE—Sami Z is a favorite. I also love to travel and often go to Africa, but I like trips to Vegas and California, too. And I like to work on self-development by reading books. I am always curious and love to learn more about … everything.

Education: I attended the Esther Bacon School of Nursing and Midwifery in Liberia, West Africa. I left with just a semester to graduate as a midwife as I moved to the USA. I am currently working on my prerequisites for nursing here in America.

Job Experience:  I have been a DSP for six years and a travel CNA for three years.

Favorite part of the job: My favorite part of the job is the fact that I am able to care for people and to be part of their daily lives.

What is your motivation for coming to work: My motivation for coming to work every day is working with people I like and taking care of the people I love. I really enjoy the staff at the houses, and I have good relationships with the people who live in the homes.

What made you apply: I applied because of how nice the manager was at Douglas when I was a temp. I had the opportunity to work with Kristina and she showed me how great the job is. She reminds me often that she loves to have me on the team here at Living Well.

What makes you stay: My manager and the people I work with and for at both houses.

What would you tell- people interested in joining the team: I talk about my job a lot and I always make sure to tell them that my manager is supportive, and she is always willing to listen to whatever you tell her, and that Living Well is a good company. I love Living Well!

When not at work what do you like to do for fun: When I am off work, I go shopping (both to the mall and for groceries), visit with family, and chill at home.
