Our DSP for this week is Mary. She works in our customized services department which means she works with folks who need a few hours of service versus 24/7 care. You can find Mary out and about with the people she supports doing a wide variety of activities, including volunteering at Living Well with the Meal Masters program.
Ryan Guenther, Program Manager, says, “Mary consistently works with a few folks in Customized Services and she is always involved in whatever they are doing. Mary always provides new opportunities for people to engage in, and even helps in ways that she doesn’t need to, but she does anyway because she’s so amazing!!!”
Kathy Anderson, Volunteer Program Manager, says, “I’ve worked with Mary for many years, since I worked in Customized Services, and she’s the best! Mary is always willing to do what’s best for individuals. She is perceptive to details that make a difference.”
Mary, we appreciate your dedication to helping support others and helping them to live their best lives. Thank you for making a career out of caring.
ABOUT MARY
Number of years/months with Living Well: 13 years 5 months
Hobbies/Interests: I enjoy reading murder mysteries, and doing crafts, especially diamond art.
Education: LPN, Pharmacy Technician
Job Experience/History: Homecare Nursing, Pharmacy Technician
Favorite part of the job: The variety of clients I have right now and the things they like to do.
Favorite or craziest work story: This just happened the other day when one of my folks and I were volunteering for freezer meals. There happened to be three other people served along with caregivers doing meals and it was pretty hectic but we were able to finish four sets of meals. We came away from that just flabbergasted of how we were able to get it all done.
What is your motivation for coming to work: I have been on the receiving side of these services and know how much I appreciated the staff and want to share and support them in any way I can and make a difference.
What made you apply: Years ago, I wanted to do less physical care and still be a part of giving my clients my best.
What makes you stay: The company’s commitment to people served, employees and the diversity and acceptance of all.
What would you tell people interested in joining the team: Great company that cares about your wellbeing and the number of employees that have been here a long time. Longevity.
When not at work what do you like to do for fun: I love to go meet up with friends at the coffee shop for crafts and great laughter.
Do you volunteer in your community or school: I volunteer with several people I support doing freezer meals.
