Syinthia, we appreciate you. Your hard work and positive energy brighten the days at Scheltty. Your ability to connect with others is our mission in action. Thank you.
ABOUT SYINTHIA
Number of years/months with Living Well: 9 months
Hobbies/Interests: I like music, dancing, and singing. I also like cooking, exploring new opportunities, and ideas.
Education: I have an associate degree in teaching.
Job Experience/History: My role as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) is full of fun because I like what I do. There is an internal fulfilment when I render help to the needy, especially those with health challenges. I provide companionate care and support individuals with disabilities, helping them archive greater independence in their daily lives. I am responsible for assisting with the cares. Facilitating community activities, implementing individualized care plans. My work involves closely collaborating with healthcare professionals and families to ensure the best outcomes for those I support. I also developed strong communication skills and learned to manage challenging situations with patience and empathy.
Favorite part of the job: As I earlier mentioned, this job is full of fun, interacting with the people served in terms of caregiving and assistance creates that bond with them. Together we go out to community activities, in short, they are already part of my family. Building meaningful relations with the individual I support and seeing their progress over time. It is incredibly rewarding to witness their achievements, no matter how small, and know that I have played a part in their journey. I also love that every day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn, which keeps the work engaging and fulfilling. And when doing direct cares, driving them out for appointments and passing medications.
Favorite or craziest work story: Actually, some days are crazy, I remember one time one of the people I serve had a medical emergency, I was afraid and at the same time I had to take quick action and follow the protocol. I accompanied them to the ER, and he was taken care of. They came back home, and we continued the day as if nothing happened. And helping people fulfill their lifelong dreams, like taking them to a Fair and putting them in a hot air balloon which was spinning round and round. They were filled with excitement, there was happiness on their face as they realized their dream. This was a powerful reminder on the impact I have on those I support.
What is your motivation for coming to work: My motivation for coming to work stems from deep commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others, inspired by both my personal values and family history. Working alongside dedicated coworkers who share this passion energizes me, and together, we create a supportive environment that truly makes a difference. My desire to serve others and contribute to their well-being is not just a job; it is a calling that I’ve seen reflected in my family’s dedication to helping other overs the years. This sense of purpose drives me to give my best every day.
What made you apply: I love working with people facing health challenges because I put myself in their position at times and imagine if I could have been the one, because my late Mum had health challenges, and I took care of her for over five years before she passed on. I am passionate about making a meaningful impact on the lives of people. The values and mission of the organization align closely with my own, motivating me to contribute to its success.
What makes you stay: I stay because of the strong sense of fulfillment I get from making a difference in the lives of people and the supportive, collaborative environment with the team. The opportunity to continue growing both personally and professionally keeps me motivated and committed. I have learned more and with good administration.
What would you tell people interested in joining the team: Living Well is a rewarding place to be. because it provides all we need to support the people we serve to prolong their life. The supportive team culture, opportunities for growth, and the chance to make a real difference make it an incredibly fulfilling and meaningful experience.
When not at work what do you like to do for fun: I like reading, cooking is another passion of mine. I love experimenting with new recipes and sharing meals with friends and Families. And going out for community work. I enjoy being in a community which gives me a chance to give back and stay connected with those around me.
Do you volunteer in your community or school: Yes, I actively volunteer in my local church. I participate in the food sharing committee once every two weeks, we go out and share food with the people on the street all around Minneapolis and St. Paul. It’s a great way to give back and stay connected with those around me while making a positive impact.
