Our DSP this week is Teyana. She has been with Living Well for close to 10 years and is a dedicated employee who is devoted to helping others live their best lives. She works at our Brookview home and her 13-year-old daughter basically grew up at the house, visiting her mom on occasion and always being sweet and kind to the people at the home with every interaction. Mary lives at Brookview and loves it when Teyana’s daughter comes over—she gives her a big hug every time she visits. What a lucky kid, to learn from modeled behavior what it means to be of service to others.

Program Manager, Lyndsey Thomas, says, “What I love most about Teyana is her unwavering love and support of the people who live at Brookview. How dependable she is as an employee, as a coworker, and as a friend. I think one of her greatest strengths is how she always wants the individuals to be included in something fun.” Lyndsey tells us Teyana is the first person to sign up to do any activities that make the individual’s quality of life the best it can be. Lyndsey adds, “We have worked together for close to 10 years and since that time she has worked her way up into the APM role. She is an incredible trainer for all the new employees. She has a lot of great qualities!”

Teyana says, “Living Well has definitely made a big impact on my life with all the experience I have gained from being here, down to passing medications, and the way I take care of the individuals I work with.” She speaks passionately about caring for others and has a natural warmth to her that is required in this role, but is almost impossible to teach.

Teyana, we are inspired by your dedication to helping others thrive. Thank you for making a career out of caring. We appreciate you.

Number of years/months with Living Well: 10 years 8 months

Hobbies/Interests: I like to shop, play double Dutch when the weather is warm enough, and travel. I took an amazing cruise to the Bahamas and go to Atlanta to visit family frequently.

Education: CNA Certification in 2021

Job Experience/History: I started working overnights at Paul’s Place for a year and then I transferred to Brookview. I started off as an ADSP and I am now the APM. I also work fulltime at Gillette Children’s Hospital as a CNA and have been there for two and a half years now.

Favorite part of the job: I enjoy taking individuals out to sporting events and out to eat, to family functions, or just cutting their hair or getting them dressed for their day, so they can look and feel good.

Favorite work story: My first time going to a Vikings game was with Living Well and the experience was great. Both Tom and I went for the first time together and we had a blast!

What is your motivation for coming to work: My coworkers and the individuals I work with motivate and keep me coming to work every day. Two people who really motivate me are Beth Ryan and Nike Soloja! They basically taught me all I know at Brookview and I appreciate them so much for the things they’ve shown and taught me over the years. And of course, my wonderful PM Lyndsey. She has always been so understanding and open to talking about anything personal or work related.

What makes you stay: What makes me stay at Living well are the individuals and how much love I have for them.

What would you tell people interested in joining the team: It takes a lot to take care of another person that depends on you in so many ways every day, and it gets hard sometimes. But all you have to do is stand your ground and find your groove and you will love it. Shoot I do!!

When not at work what do you like to do for fun: When I’m not at work I love to take naps or eat buffalo chicken wings and hang out with friends and family.

Do you volunteer in your community or school: My daughter and I volunteer with 30,000 Feet. Their programs offer hands-on, project-based experiences infused with arts and culture to reach students in ways traditional teaching might not. At 30K, they inspire African American youth by giving them the confidence to believe in themselves and their endless potential.
