Twyla having fun, like always.

Our DSP Shoutout for this week is Twyla. She has been with Living Well for over 8 years, and she is a force in the house. She has the most incredibly positive energy and people who meet her love her.

Program Manager, Deb Krienitz, says, “She is amazing. Twyla is just a go getter. She is so upbeat and positive. She is wonderful with the guys, and she comes to work with a throw it at me attitude. She dives right in, and nothing stops her.” Twyla loves all the people in the house and has great relationships with the people she works with. She is a lot of fun, and easy to spend time with.

Twyla works every weekend, so they go to church, out for drives, to art in the park, and to lots of community events. She takes the crew out for lunch and shopping—whatever is needed, she is there and ready to get to work. Deb adds, “If a staff needs a day off, she’s got you. Twyla is not afraid to work. If I could clone her I would!”

If only we really could clone this incredible DSP! Congrats, Twyla—we appreciate your incredible work and adore your energy.

ABOUT TWYLA

Number or years/months with Living Well: 8 years and 4 months

Hobbies/Interests: I love hiking, especially in Colorado. I like to read. Pretty much anything outdoors with my son, niece, and nephew.

Job experience/history: Before Living Well I used to work in construction, mainly roofing.

Favorite part of the job: My absolute favorite part of the job is the reactions of our people served when they first see you. You can always count on the biggest hugs and smiles the moment you walk in.

Favorite or craziest work story: There I was, walking through the door to start the shift, minding my own business, when 5-and-a-half-foot unicorn comes running at me screaming. One of my supervisors, Angie, apparently has a unicorn costume. I slapped the door and screamed like an 8-year-old schoolgirl.

What is your motivation for coming to work: My motivation for coming into work would have to be the people. Every one of them. Whether it be people served or coworkers. Central is like a family here, but I have to say my Supervisor Larry is hands down my favorite human ever. The “Silver Stallion” of Central started at Living Well the year I was born. He is definitely my work bestie, and I can’t imagine life without this man.

What made you apply: I applied because of my sister. I needed a job fast and she had just left Living Well. I told her I did not think I would like ‘group home work.’ I will never forget her reply. She said, “Twyla, I promise you this place is not like other group homes. It is a home and I know you will love it.” She was right.

What made you stay: I ended up staying because it really is like a home with one big family. The people we serve here at Central can make you forget that any of your problems exist. They melt your heart with their smiles and make your ribs sore from all the laughing.

What would you tell people interested in joining the team: I would tell them that they are in for a ride. I am sure they want to come here to help better our people’s lives, but what they do not know is how much they better yours.

When not at work what do you like to do for fun: If I am not at work, I am spending time with my family or animals.
